Fort Dix, New Jersey, October 30, 1950
Moved into new quarters yesterday. I am taking basic training here in Fort Dix. The hometown bunch has all gone to the four winds. Some to Fort Pickett, Virginia, some to North Carolina, and some to Camp Atterbury, Indiana. I wouldn't have minded going south.
The New Jersey guys tell me that the winters are cold here. Anyway, I am now a stranger among strangers. Not one familiar face anywhere.
Tomorrow, my first taste of K. P.
